The name Casa da Peneireira originates from its location near a river where, in more ancient times, its waters would move the grinding wheels of the various mills that existed there, flour mills where the flour would be sieved ('peneirada') and later used for baking bread for home consumption.
Inserted under the category of mountain cottages, the Casa da Peneireira has been completely restored, although it still respects its original architecture and simplicity.
Located in a valley bathed by an affluent of the River Sul, in the village of Açores in São Pedro do Sul, this is a very quiet place, wrapped in a mountain setting, where the sound of water is ever-present. The property comprises an area of approximately 70ha of forest, where there is a diversity of trees such as pine, eucalyptus, cork-oak, strawberry tree, live oak, ash-tree, willow, cedar. There also remain here several tracks where one can undertake walks by the river (2km), bicycle rides and horse rides, whilst enjoying all the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
During the summer season, the various reservoirs that exist along the river allow for private and refreshing baths, in clear and fresh water.
In the vicinity, one can visit the villages of Xisto, and with the village of Fujaco at 2 km and 10 km away, one can find the famous village of Pena. Approximately at the same distance (10km), already in S. Pedro do Sul, one can visit the most attended hot springs of the country, recognised by their medical benefits.
The Casa da Peneireira awaits your visit!
